DARWIN REMEMBERS BOMBING 49 YEARS AGO

The Gulf crisis would be on the minds of residents end war

veterans at today's memorial of the bombing of Darwin, Northern Territory Senator Grant Tambling said today.

Speaking on the 49th anniversary of the bombing of the city, Senator Tambling paid tribute to the men and women who fought and died during the air raid attacks.

“The bombing - regarded as the worst disaster in history on Australian soil - killed 243 people, left 300 wounded and caused major damage to shipping and ground facilities.

"Now, nearly half a century later, the people of the Northern Territory cannot afford to distance themselves from any war."
