Media Release COALITION SPOTLIGHT ON NT

The Goods and Services Tax will be on the agenda of Shadow Finance Minister, Senator Jim Short, when he visits the Northern Territory this week.

The Victorian Liberal Senator will hold discussions with NT Government officials in Darwin on Thursday and Friday, focusing on Treasury and the portfolios of Mines and Energy and Industries and Development.

Senator Short, who also has responsibility for

Commonwealth/State relations, will look at long-term financial planning in the Northern Territory and the particular needs of developing industries.

He will travel to Alice Springs on Friday afternoon where he will be joined by colleagues from the Federal Liberal and National Parties, including Northern Territory Senator Grant

Tambling.

Senator Tambling today welcomed the Federal Coalition's high- level support for the Country Liberal Party's annual conference in Alice Springs this weekend.

Other visiting parliamentarians will include: Opposition Leader, Dr John Hewson National Party Leader, Mr Tim Fischer Shadow Minister for Primary Industry, Mr Bruce Lloyd

Shadow Minister for Immigration, Mr Philip Ruddock Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Dr Michael Wooldridge, and Queensland Senator Bill O'Chee.
