AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT QUICKLY FALLING BEHIND NZ

"The Australian Government is quickly falling behind New Zealand in privatising Government Business Enterprises", the Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said today.

Hawke and Keating are still bowling underarm while the New Zealand Government is bowling overarm flat out in privatisation programmes.

Privatisation in Australia and New Zealand is vital if our two nations are to stop their drift towards the Third World.

Changes to the New Zealand economy and the beneficial effects of selling Government enterprises are consistently misrepresented in Australia.

Difficulties in the New Zealand economy have nothing to do with the reforms being carried on by Bolger and Richardson.

New Zealand has suffered from a huge decline in the prices paid for its primary products and from the closure of some of its markets. -

This has forced political leaders to make the provision of services more efficient.

New Zealand has led the way in the privatisation of Government services and enterprises.

The intention to float NZ Telecom on stock markets is an example of their determination to win back their position among the Western economies.
