JULIAN BEALE, M.H.R. Federal Mem ber for Bruce Shadow Minister for Privatisation

MEDIA RELEASE

MELBOURNE AIRPORT SLIPPING BEHIND

Melbourne airport will soon slip well behind Brisbane and Sydney unless it is sold into the private sector, the Federal Member for Bruce and Shadow Minister for Privatisation, Julian Beale, said today.

Brisbane airport is set to pass Melbourne in a few years in passenger numbers and become Australia's second busiest.

With the assistance of the Sydney-based Federal Airports Corporation, Sydney Airport already receives 250% more passengers than Melbourne.

The Federal Airports Corporation is spending only token amounts on refurbishing Melbourne Airport.

This is another sign that the Federal Government and the Prime Minister have lost interest in Melbourne.

The Prime Minister lives permanently outside Victoria and now has a private house in Sydney,.

Victoria and Melbourne will continue to decline unless private investment develops a first class international terminal.

The Coalition Parties will be telling the voters of Wills about the Prime Minister's neglect of both his seat and Victoria.
