PM Must Act on Bolkus

I have today written to the Prime Minister requesting that he initiate a full investigation of the intervention by Senator Bolkus in a government computer equipment contract.

Leaked documents from the Department of Administrative Services show clearly that Senator Bolkus directed his Department to put Nashua Australia Pty Ltd "on the contract" after Nashua had failed to win a place for a diskette supply contract on the basis of price.

The Department refused the Minister's directive because it would compromise the integrity of the Commonwealth's tender process.

Intervention by Ministers in the tender process is a most serious matter.

If an investigation shows that Senator Bolkus interfered improperly with a tender, as the facts as we know them appear to show, then the Prime Minister ought to consider whether Senator Bolkus can remain in the Ministry.
