TAX PACKAGE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL LIBERALS

The release of the Coalition's tax package would provide all members of the Liberal Party with the opportunity to support the vision and policies of a strong political team led by John Hewson, the Shadow Minister for Industry and Commerce, Ian McLachlan said today.

"This economic package will give voters a clear choice between the two major parties."

Speaking at the Liberal Party's State Council meeting in Geelong, Mr McLachlan said party members were seeing a Federal team led by John Hewson who all had similar ideas on the need to reach out and wrestle Australia onto a new path.

"Australians are standing hesitantly, slightly baffled, a little short on confidence but ready for the John Hewson team to pick this country up and shake it into life.

"The ingredients which will successfully bring that about are no different to those things which drove us to win the World Cup, the America Cup or the British Open.

"They are incentive, dedication, loyalty, team-work and perseverance."

Referring to his sporting experience as a cricketer Mr McLachlan said that he had found when he had been facing a West Indian fast-bowler whose fire-power was too great there was a temptation to move the feet from the line and to take a step back.

"Many of you will come under pressure in the next few weeks after our economic package is released from people who will disagree with this or disagree with that.

"I am confident that you will resist the temptation to move from the line of fire because although you might privately disagree with one or two small issues, overwhelmingly it will be quite clear that the policies that have been announced are

those that will reform and reconstruct Australia."

"In the next few days you will see that the Hewson team has put together a collection of policies that will give our children the chance to help this country regain its place in the world."
