Federal Leader of the National Party Tim Fischer is to be present when the NFF hands more than 30,000 letters of protest to Prime Minister Bob Hawke on 5 March 1991.

"I have been asked by the NFF and National Party members across Australia, many of whom are the authors of the letters, to attend the hand over," Mr Fischer said.

"It is quite obvious that Messrs Hawke and Keating are impervious to the messages so far delivered from the bush that they have all but brought rural and provincial Australia to its knees.

"The NFF is to be congratulated on their initiative in

coordinating this mail in. I only hope that when Bob Hawke's minders open the mail they convey to him at least a summary of the strong message each letter contains. That message is 'we've

had enough of hard labor'," Mr Fischer said.

"Clearly this Government is staggering from one crisis to another and one band aid quick fix solution after another. All

Australians will be looking to the Prime Minister's March economic statement for a clear admission of failure and for that essential 'U' turn in policies to get the economy working again.

MR Fischer said he was pessimistic about the likely outcome because so far Mr Hawke has failed to take that first necessary step and sack Paul Keating.
