RELEASE DPIE 91/13K 13. January 1991

IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY FOR PEACEFUL BAY

A grant of $33 000 to improve the water supply security at Peaceful Bay was announced today by the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, John Kerin.

The money is to be provided under the Federal Country Towns Supply Improvement Program (COWSIP). ' . -

The project estimated to cost $99 000, will involve equipping a borefield to augment the existing system and providing a stand-pipe. It will ensure that the residents of Peaceful Bay

will have access to a reliable water supply.

Since 1985-86 the COWSIP program in Western Australia has funded 16 projects valued at $8.8 million, with a total Commonwealth contribution of $2.9 million. These projects have provided improved water supplies for almost 3 500 people.

"This high level of support for Western Australia's Country Towns Water Supply Improvement Program demonstrates the Hawke Government's commitment to social justice for rural people,"

said Mr Kerin.

"I am always delighted to see country people getting a fair deal on basic amenities such as the security of their water supply."
