KERIN SUPPORTS WOOL CORPORATION DECISION TO DEFER SALES

The Minister for Primary Industries & Energy, John Kerin met today with the Board of the Australian Wool Corporation (AWC) and the Wool Council of Australia (WCA) to receive the AWC's Strategic Plan.

At the meeting the Chairman of the AWC, Mr Beggs, announced that he intended to move immediately to defer wool sales scheduled for the next three weeks.

Mr Beggs said this would provide an opportunity for the industry and Government to consider in detail their further response to be current wool market difficulties.

Mr Kerin supports this action as a responsible approach in the present climate of acute market speculation. He also welcomes the support of the WCA for the AWC action.
