Bob Brown AUSTRALIA V-v > \ \ X X X\ ■■■ ZZZ^i Minister for Land Transport 053/91 12 February 1991

EXTRA FEDERAL· CASH FOR THREE COUNCILS

The Federal Government will assist three councils in the Central West Slopes and Plains region with more than $500 000 in grants for special local road projects.

The grants are in addition to Federal funding for local roads in the region, amounting to $6.2 million in 1990-91. This money was announced in October by Federal Land Transport Minister, Bob Brown.

Mr Brown endorsed the latest grants after receiving a report from the new Local Roads Advisory Committee, which was established last year to advise the Minister on the allocation of almost $12 million in special reserve funds

for roadworks and bridge repair and construction.

The committee comprises representatives of the Federal Department of Transport and Communications, the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority and the Local Government and Shires Associations.

'This group ensures that all parties have a say in how the special funds are allocated’, Mr Brown said.

The three projects to receive special Federal local roads funding this financial year are:

- The Macquarie River Bridge (Rawsonville Bridge) at Minore, near Dubbo ($100 000);

- the Lachlan River bridges on the Eugowra-Cowra Road at Colletts Crossing ($140 000) and on the Waroo-Xs^rabandai Road ($170 000), near Forbes; and

- the Goobang Creek Bridge at Condoblin ($110 000).

Mr Brown said the Rawsonville Bridge was the only crossing on the Macquarie River for people living on the Western side of the Dubbo City Council area.

'As such, it is an important local arterial road', Mr Brown said.

The Minister said he was pleased to endorse the advisory committee1s recomendation to fund the Goobang Creek Bridge in Condoblin Shire.

1 It assumes special significance when the Lachlan River floods the main town bridge and the Goobang Bridge becomes an important alternative route1, he said.

Mr Brown said that in some circumstances, councils were matching the Federal grant for works on special local road projects in their region.
