MINISTER FOR

SMALL BUSINESS AND CUSTOMS THE HON. DAVID BEDDALL

IMMEDIATE RELEASE 25 JUNE 1991 75/91

LABOR'S SMALL BUSINESS POLICY KEY TO THE 90'S

The Federal Minister for Small Business and Customs, Mr David Beddall today welcomed the new Small Business Platform passed at the ALP National Conference in Hobart yesterday.

" The agenda reflects the policy needs identified in the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology's Inquiry into Small Business. This Inquiry commissioned by the Federal Labor Government took two years and was the first ever Federal Inquiry into small business, " Mr Beddall said.

" The policies outlined in the Platform recognise the vital role that small business plays in Australia's economic development."

" Labor is committed to implementing policies that address the structural problems of small business and which will strengthen the performance of the sector over the next three years. "

" The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Program announced in the March 1991 Industry Statement provides a prime vehicle for implementing the new Small Business Platform."

" I am confident that the Small Business Platform passed by National Conference will be well received by the small business community," Mr Beddall said.
