NIES ASSISTS TASMANIAN FINE FOOD NETWORK

The Federal Minister for Small Business and Customs, Mr David Beddall, today launched a new enterprise network which aims to promote Tasmania as a unique source of fine food and drink.

The Tasmanian Fine Food Network, involving six major firms, will package Atlantic salmon, Pacific oysters, grass-fed beef, fancy cheeses, premium lager and locally produced wines for domestic and overseas markets.

On behalf of the National Industry Extension Service (NIES), Mr Beddall presented a cheque for $25,000 to help the Tasmanian network develop a strategic plan to target the international gourmet market with a total food package.

"It is encouraging that industry leaders can see the advantage of acting collectively to achieve greater penetration of international markets," he said.

"This type of funding provided by NIES represents a highly effective way in which the public sector can support private enterprise initiatives." ' '
