Visit of Veterans' Affairs Minister to Northern Territory

An inspection of the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the opening of new premises in Darwin for the Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service, and handing over of a Joint Venture grant cheque to North Darwin RSL are among activities being undertaken by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Ben Humphreys.

The Minister is in the Northern Territory for two days to meet representatives of ex-service organisations, veterans and Defence personnel.

He is also visiting Darwin RSL, and Coral House, which provides emergency accommodation for veterans and their families.

Mr Humphreys will be at the Adelaide River War Cemetery tomorrow. This is the most visited war cemetery in Australia with thousands of visitors annually. It was created during World War Π for the burial of servicemen who died in northern Australia and is maintained by the Office of Australian War Graves.

The war cemetery, has 434 burials, and the adjacent civil cemetery has 65, most of whom were casualties of the Darwin air raids.
