Minister for transport and communications

The Minister for Transport and Communications, Kim Beazley, has announced the appointment of Ms Mary Stuart as a Director of ANL Limited.

Since 1988, Ms Stuart has been a full-time union official with the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Victoria Trades Hall Council. Before that she was an associate to the Deputy President of the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.

Mr Beazley said Ms Stuart's four-year appointment, which began on 1 July, would bring industrial relations skills to complement existing expertise.

"The appointment coincides with a challenging time for ANL as it completes a major revitalisation program, including the renewal of almost half its fleet," Mr Beazley said.

"It is also a time when ANL is actively pursuing reforms in shipping and the waterfront and Ms Stuart's expertise will be a valuable asset."

"The Government’s program of shipping and waterfront efficiency initiatives will place ANL in a good position to compete in the increasingly competitive domestic and international markets."

Details of Ms Stuart's career are attached.
