STATEMENT BY THE HON SIMON CREAN, MP MINISTER ASSISTING THE TREASURER

DECLARATION OF THE FEDERAL AIRPORTS CORPORATION AND THE CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY

The Minister Assisting the Treasurer, the Hon Simon Crean, MP, has declared a number of the charges of the Federal Airports Corporation (FAC) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) under the Prices Surveillance Act.

This action was foreshadowed by the Government when it announced the deregulation of the aviation industry in 1988.

The objectives of PSA surveillance is to ensure that the monopoly positions of the FAC and CAA are not used to extract excessive charges from the aviation industry.
