^ MEDIA RELEASE ^ DR BOB WOODS SHADOW MINISTER FOR HEALTH COALITION HEALTH SEMINAR, 21 MARCH 1991

Shadow Minister for Health, Dr Bob Woods, today described the Coalition's approach to health as responsible and thorough.

Dr Woods said he welcomed the interest of Coalition Senators and Members who assembled in Canberra today to hear a number of speakers from different organisations involved in health.

"The speakers were invited to present their views to Liberal and National parliamentarians as part of the Coalition's ongoing process of review in the health area.

"Today's proceedings provided a variety of opinions on the state of Australia's health care system and was designed to give individual Senators and Members the opportunity to hear those opinions."

Dr Woods said the speakers held differing views on options for improving Australia's health care system and the day was a valuable exercise in maintaining a balanced debate.

No speaker's view was either endorsed or disregarded.

Dr Woods said the response from Coalition Senators and Members proved they were interested in getting as much information as possible on alternatives in health care and this accurately reflected the process of policy formulation currently underway.

"The Coalition's commitment to reforming the health care system remains: to maximise access, quality and efficiency of health services for all Australians."
