χ£ MEDIA RELEASE ^ DR BOB WOODS SHADOW MINISTER FOR HEALTH

2 December 1991

HOWE WRONG CAN YOU GET?

Brian Howe came to shoot a hole in the Coalition's health Policy today but ended up shooting himself through the foot.

There is no gaping hole in the Coalition's policy but there is now a huge one in Brian Howe's credibility.

Having descended into the gutter in Parliament last week, the Deputy Prime Minister was desperate to demonstrate his credentials not only to the public but also to his Prime Minister who clearly forced him out into the open before he was ready.

With an army of bureaucrats working day-in, day-out since the release of "Fightback", Brian Howe has been unable to mount a credible attack on the Coalition policy.

Clearly Brian Howe's so-called $2 billion hole is a figment of the imagination of this desperate man.

As Rosemary Crowley has demonstrated Labor is in absolute turmoil over health policy. Mr Howe's performance today is startling confirmation of this fact.

Under Mr Howe's stewardship of Health Policy, waiting lists will get longer, the private sector is barely viable, inefficiency and wastage is running rife, medical insurance is illegal and pensioners languish for months or years on waiting

lists.

The Coalition Health·Policy, the only health policy in this country attacks waiting lists, restores viability to the private sector, improves efficiency, reduces wastage and allows insurance cover to protect against potentially crippling medical fees.
