The Federal Government will recommend to the Governor-General in Council th a t Ms Anne Morrow, accomplished educationalist, be appointed to head the Federal Government’s Schools Council and become a member of the National Board of Employment, Education

and Training.

John Dawkins, the Minister for Employment, Education and Training, announced th a t Federal Cabinet had today decided to recommend th a t Ms Morrow, presently chief executive of the Victorian Ministry of Education, be appointed head of the Schools

Council for five years from August 5,1991.

"I am particularly pleased th a t Cabinet has decided to recommend Ms Morrow for this important advisory position to the Federal Government," said Mr Dawkins.

The Schools Council is one of the four councils of the National Board of Employment, Education and Training (NBEET) which provides the Federal Government with advice on employment, education and training issues.

Ms Morrow’s involvement in education began when she worked for the former Commonwealth Department of Education.

She worked as a teacher for nine years and has worked as a consultant in children’s services.

In recent years she has also been director, social development division, Victorian Department of Prem ier and Cabinet.

"Ms Morrow will be able to bring to the Schools Council a deep understanding of how education policy is made and implemented, particularly a t the State system level. Her teaching experience means th a t she also knows w hat it is like to be in the classroom.

Ms Morrow’s proposed appointment will fill the vacancy th a t will be left by the inaugural chair of the Schools Council, Ms Lyndsay Connors, whose term expires in July.

Ms Connors has been appointed deputy-chair of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
