$600.000 for AUSMUSIC in Budget

The Federal Government today announced it has allocated $600,000 in the 1991-92 Budget to advance education and training in the Australian music industry through its support of the Australian Contemporary Music Development Company, AUSMUSIC.

John Dawkins, the Minister for Employment, Education and Training, said the Budget allocation will assist AUSMUSIC to continue to provide the development and enhancement of training opportunities for young people in the music industry and promote Australian music and Australian artists.

"The Australian music industry is becoming a big export product for Australia and has an extremely important cultural value," the Minister said.

Mr Dawkins said AUSMUSIC has broad industry support. He said the future of its funding and income base will be clearer following a decision on the Government's blank tape levy and deliberations on the future shape of the Australian record industry.
