HAWKE CONDEMNED ON NEW "TREATY" COMMENTS

The Prime Minister's continued self-indulgent and insensitive approach to Aboriginal Affairs is to be condemned.

His renewed promotion of a "Treaty" at a time when his Government is woefully neglecting the basic requirement that there be orderly administration in Aboriginal Affairs is both cynical and irresponsible.

I suggest the Prime Minister might visit - without warning - communities such as Balgo and Wiluna in Western Australia to see whether his romantic and divisive Treaty should be given priority over attention to the severe on-the-ground problems of people who appear to be going backwards rather than forward.

He might try to get some independent advice on the collapse of morale among public servants and ADC employees since Mr Hand became Minister.

The Prime Minister is completely irresponsible in this sensitive area. Thousands are suffering as a result. Thousands of Aboriginal children will be in poverty in 1990.
