LABOUR COUNCIL SACRIFICIAL SACKING CONDEMNED

The sacrificial sacking of Labour Council officer Mark Duffy will be condemned by all fair-minded Australians.

It is an indictment of the labour movement's attitude to free speech and independent thought at a time when totalitarian regimes are falling because they suppressed both.

Mr Duffy's "crime" is not that he was involved in the distribution of a document.

He is paying the price for telling the truth about the total failure of the ALP-ACTU Accord.

The private truths put on paper by Mr Duffy and his co-author, Mr Michael Costa, exposed the public lies of government and union leaders.

By pointing out that the Accord process has failed to deliver productivity improvements and that because of that real wage rises are impossible under the Accord, and by criticising the ACTU proposal for bigger, but not enterprise based unions, Messrs

Duffy and Costa severely embarrassed their industrial and political masters.

Their honesty showed conclusively that the Emperors have no clothes.

Mr Duffy's sacking for admitting he sought the views of a former colleague on his paper is a flimsy excuse to appease government and union outrage.

It is the fact that he and Mr Costa challenged the official version of the Accord record that has had politicians and unionists demanding their heads.
