THE HON. WARREN SNOWDON MP Minister for Defence Science and Personnel

Monday, 11 February 2008 008/2008

The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon, today announced funding of $3,771 for the Defence family community in the Mornington Peninsula region.

The seeding grant through the Defence Family Support Funding Program to the Cerberus Cottage Family and Friends Inc located at HMAS CERBERUS, will help replace computer and internet services to the Cottage.

“Cerberus Cottage provides a meeting place for community, and regular social and support activities for the families of Australian Defence Force members in the area,” Mr Snowdon said.

“ADF families face a lot of challenges as a result of the military lifestyle.

“Families are required to be mobile, relocating as often as every two years, to areas where they may have no established family or social support networks.

“The Defence Family Support Funding Program is one of a number of programs provided to help these families connect with the local community,” Mr Snowdon said.

“It is important work and with this additional $3,771 grant, Defence families in the Mornington Peninsula will be better able to email loved ones, search for jobs near their Defence partner and generally find help with day-to-day life in their new posting.”

Previously in this financial year, over a million dollars has been spent through The Defence Family Support Funding Program across 43 Defence family groups in all states and territories as well as in Papua New Guinea and Malaysia.
