INDUSTRY TO PARTNER DEFENCE IN PROVIDING A BETTER LIVING ENVIRONMENT FOR SINGLES

The Australian Government is committed to matching community standards for single accommodation while maximising value for money, the Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Fran Bailey, told the Project Single LEAP (Living Environment and Accommodation Precinct) Industry Forum today.

The Forum, held today in Sydney, follows the Federal Government Budget announcement that $113.2 million is to be made available for a stage one programme to deliver quality living accommodation for single ADF personnel.

“Defence is competing for future employees from a shrinking pool and must offer challenging work combined with quality living. Improved living accommodation is critical to ADF recruitment and retention,” Fran Bailey said.

Fran Bailey said the purpose of today’s Forum was to seek innovation from industry.

“We’re looking for a move away from traditional delivery methods where the Government owns the buildings, to the provision of a service where industry owns and operates the accommodation and charges Defence for the use.

“Industry has often sought greater opportunity to contribute to the development of procurement strategies for major Defence projects. Today, we are inviting industry participation from the beginning of the process to ensure we can forge successful partnerships to deliver quality single accommodation for ADF personnel.”
