SENATOR NATASHA STOTT DESPOJA AUSTRALIAN DEMOCRATS SENATOR FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA

DEMOCRATS LAUNCH YOUTH POLL

Australian Democrats’ Senator for South Australia Natasha Stott Despoja will today launch her annual Youth Poll questionnaire.

For more than a decade, Youth Poll has surveyed 15-20 year olds from around Australia about their views on a range of issues - from employment, health, drugs, education and a range of national and State/Territory issues.

Launching Youth Poll 2007, Senator Stott Despoja said young people are often ignored by the major political parties.

“Youth Poll, the only extensive survey of young people conducted by a political party, aims to give young people a stronger voice on issues which affect them,” Senator Stott Despoja said.

This year, among many more questions on national issues, Youth Poll asks: • whether the Government should do more to ensure David Hicks receives a fair trial; • whether young people support the introduction of the Government’s Access Card; and • if they believe the Government is doing enough to address climate change.

“It is important that young people who are not yet eligible to vote are able to have their views reflected in the political process - including in Parliament,” Senator Stott Despoja said.

Questionnaires will be sent to individuals, secondary schools, youth organisations, TAFEs and universities, with responses due back by the end of March.
