National Party Senate Leader Ron Boswell said today eight local people are benefiting from work experience opportunities in the latest round of Work for the Dole projects in Babinda.

“I am pleased to announce that a new Work for the Dole project is underway in the Babinda district”, he said.

The project involves Work for the Dole participants establishing new community services in new premises to help revitalise the Babinda community. Duties include setting up the office, administration, maintenance of community notice boards, gardening and beautification of public areas.

“This Work for the Dole project will not only enhance facilities and services for the benefit of the entire community, it will also give unemployed people useful work experience in a bid to get them back into employment.

Senator Boswell said project sponsors and Community Work Coordinators work hard to see that Work for the Dole participants succeed. The Babinda District Community Association sponsored the Babinda project.

In the latest round of projects, 506 new projects were approved across Australia, providing valuable work experience opportunities for 6,835 job seekers.

Since Work for the Dole commenced in late-1997, over 12,300 projects had been approved, providing places for over 222,000 Australians to boost their job hunting chances.
