MALLEE SCHOOLS COLLECT $3,133,848 UNDER INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS PROGRAMME FUNDING

Students and staff at 30 primary and secondary schools across North Western Victoria will benefit from an Australian Government grants totalling $3,133,848 under the Investing in Our Schools Programme, a delighted John Forrest, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee announced today from Canberra.

The Investing in Our Schools Programme is an exciting new initiative which will deliver much needed projects to school communities.

Mr Forrest said he was very proud of the Investing in Our Schools Programme, particularly more so after the schools were advised of their funding. “It’s amazing how many of them advised that these Federal funds were the only way these projects could be achieved,” said Mr Forrest.

“This is what makes this Programme so significant because it will fund projects that have been identified by school communities themselves as being critical to their schools.”

“These projects, though desperately needed by the schools, don’t seem to make it on to priority lists and instead schools face the overwhelming task of raising these funds within their local community.”

“We recognise the importance of providing schools with facilities that will enhance the education and wellbeing of students,” Mr Forrest said.

Mr Forrest said that this funding clearly demonstrates the Australian Government’s continued commitment to a strong and effective school system, maximising the opportunities for young Australians, with the Programme providing an additional $700

million during 2005-2008 in capital funding to state schools, as promised during the 2004 Federal election campaign.

“These projects involve a significant amount of funding which indicates the importance the Government places on developing and maintaining school infrastructure,” said Mr Forrest. FULL LISTING OF SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS ATTACHED
