Joanna Gash Member for Gilmore

28 July 2005

COMMUNITY WATER GRANTS ROADSHOW Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash has urged community groups to attend a forum on the Australian Government’s $200 million Community Water Grants Program.

The grants of up to $50,000 are available to the region’s sporting clubs, schools, service clubs, councils and other community organisations to make the most of an opportunity to play an important part in preserving water supplies.

The Community Water Grants program is designed to encourage the community to play a leading hand in protecting water quality and water supplies.

“This program encourages Gilmore organisations to adopt practical ideas and on the ground projects that encourage better water use and water health,” Mrs Gash said.

Mrs Gash said it is a key element of the Government’s $2 billion Water Fund.

“I urge members of all Gilmore community organisations to attend the Roadshow and find out how they can go about applying for the grants and doing something extremely positive for their region,” Mrs Gash said.

Application forms and guidelines will be available at the Roadshow and are also available from www.communitywatergrants.gov.au, by calling 1800 780 730 or at Mrs Gash’s Nowra office.

The first round of applications close October 4, 2005.
