Basslink: Senate Committee Calls For Global Warming Study The powerful Senate References Committee on the Environment, Communications, Technology and the Arts has called for a study of the impact of Basslink on global warming.

In its Greenhouse report released today the Committee recommends a full evaluation of the long-term greenhouse emissions impacts of Basslink.

In his supplementary report, Tasmania's Greens Senator Bob Brown recommended Basslink not proceed at all. He cited evidence before the Committee that the $500 million cost of Basslink even takes into account the HECs proposed wind energy project, if spent on environmentally-friendly alternative energy schemes and demand management would have a much better outcome in terms of offsetting global warming.
