Celebrating our Nation Additional funding of $3.2 million provided in the 2000-2001 Budget will help the nation celebrate the Centenary of Federation next year.

'The additional funding is a substantial investment that will help keep communities informed of what is taking place in their own region and on the other side of the country,' Federal Minister for the Centenary of Federation, Peter McGauran, said.

The National Council for the Centenary of Federation will produce a calendar of events and a new website, which will be a focal point for information and resources for centenary activities and events.

'We want all Australians, no matter where they live, to feel a part of the centenary celebrations,' Mr McGauran said.

'The celebrations for the Centenary Year will be launched in October 2000. This major expo will present a broad sweep of national centenary events, projects and merchandise.

'The National Centenary Program, which will be distributed in each State and Territory, will give communities information about centenary events and encourage their participation in this celebration,' Mr McGauran said.

'The website will contain a wide range of information and resources including a newsletter, educational and information materials, and interactive components which will also help promote this special anniversary here and overseas.

'There will be a range of activities and events taking place across the country in 2001 including a dawn ceremony at Uluru, a ceremony to commemorate the opening of the first Commonwealth Parliament, the Youth Envoy Scheme, medallions for primary school children, community work on Federation Arches, history and education projects and

resources.

'This is our opportunity for Australians to come together as a nation-to celebrate our community spirit, reflect on our past and take pride in our achievements,' Mr McGauran said.
