A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR WINDEYER CREEK

10 young people will start work on Windeyer Creek shortly, in the latest Green Corps programme.

The programme was launched by the Federal Member for Paterson Bob Baldwin and will involve the planting of 2,000 native seedlings, water quality testing and the construction of 4km of fencing.

“I congratulate these young people who are involved in the project and their commitment to helping their local environment as well as gaining skills they may use in future employment,” Mr Baldwin said.

Green Corps gives young people the opportunity to volunteer to work on community based environmental and heritage conservation projects for six months.

Responses to previous programme monitoring of participants in the early projects showed that 89% thought their self-esteem had improved, 87% indicated their desire to find a job and thought their chances of funding work had improved and 69% were in employment three months after completing their placement.
