MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS TO SAFEGUARD ROADS IN NORTH QUEENSLAND

Transport and Main Roads Minister Steve Bredhauer said today that RoadTek (North) had been awarded two road maintenance performance contracts for work in north and north western Queensland.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Senator Ron Boswell, and Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister, Steve Bredhauer, said today that RoadTek would carry out routine maintenance on the Landsborough, Bruce and Flinders Highways throughout the coming year.

Mr Bredhauer said the contracts, each worth $2 million, were jointly funded by the federal and state governments.

Senator Boswell said the contracts covered routine maintenance on the national highway in north western Queensland, on the Landsborough Highway between Winton and just south of Cloncurry, on the Barkly Highway between Cloncurry and the Northern Territory border, and on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and Ingham and between Bowen and Ayr.

Mr Bredhauer said the state-funded component of the contracts covered the Flinders Highway between Townsville and Charters Towers and between Richmond and Cloncurry, with work also to be done on the Wills Developmental Road and Burke Developmental Road.

"These projects will assist in providing ongoing employment for local roadworkers and will ensure that local roads are kept safe for motorists,'' Mr Bredhauer said.
