3 September 2007

Minister for Human Services, Senator the Hon Chris Ellison and the Federal Member for Kalgoorlie, Mr Barry Haase MP today officially opened a new Regional Service Centre (RSC) in Kalgoorlie, providing a growing regional community with more access to child support services.

The new Child Support Agency (CSA) service centre, co-located within the local Kalgoorlie Centrelink office at the corner of Egan and Porter Streets, also provides the opportunity to increase outreach services to nearby remote locations.

“The Kalgoorlie centre is the second in a roll-out of five new Regional Service Centres in Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales that increase the support provided to separated parents in regional and rural areas,” Senator Ellison said.

“Under the four year, $151 million Building a Better CSA reform package, the CSA has reshaped its service delivery to be more customer focussed, and increased services in regional areas,” Senator Ellison said.

“Its great to see CSA working hard to provide parents in the Kalgoorlie area with tailored personalised outreach and face-to-face services, particularly those who have complex or high need cases,” Mr Haase said.

“Staff can help answer questions about child support calculations or payments, provide information, personalised outreach services, one-on-one interviews, and offer referrals to other support services,” Mr Haase said.

The new centre is staffed initially by experienced CSA employees from other offices, with recruitment for two permanent Kalgoorlie positions underway.

In July at the opening of the first new service centre in Mildura, Senator Ellison announced Kalgoorlie, Warrnambool, Tamworth and Orange as locations for the four additional centres that will bring the Australia-wide total number of RSCs to 27.

The new Regional Service Centres will generate up to 21 local jobs in total and CSA will employ Customer Service Officers and Team Leaders in each location.

Customers can call 131 272 to find their nearest RSC and to make an appointment for advice and assistance on child support issues. Further information on child support issues and products to support separated parents can be found at www.csa.gov.au.
