Press Release 4 June 2004

$350,000 FOR LOCAL LANDCARE PROJECTS The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull today congratulated the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority on its successful applications for funding to complete a range of projects. Mrs Hull said the latest announcement of funding by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Warren Truss will see $350,000 flow to projects within the region under the National Landcare Program. “This funding is an investment in our local communities and allows them to put local solutions to local problems into action,” Mrs Hull said. “As part of the Community Support component of the National Landcare Program, these projects were drawn from the investment strategies developed under the regions’ natural resource management plans.” The projects include: • $10,000 for program and needs assessment, which will identify the impediments to landholders adopting sustainable cropping and pasture systems. • $60,000 for 12 on-farm demonstration sites to apply the principles of sustainable agriculture in farming landscapes across the region. • $255,000 for landholder training in the areas of sustainable pasture and cropping systems, property planning and sustainability assessments. • $25,000 to monitor impacts on sustainability and natural resources which will include the development of a landholder decision-making framework.
