$1.9 MILLION BOOST FOR ‘NEW GENERATION’ EDUCATION AND TRAINING RESOURCES

11 December 2003, MIN 556/03

The Australian education and training community will be the major beneficiaries of the new generation Education Network Australia (EdNA) Online service, a web-based resource released today by education.au limited and supported by a $1.9 million grant from the Australian Government.

EdNA Online is one of the world's largest national education and training web services, providing access to more than 18,000 evaluated online educational materials and training resources for and on behalf of Australian teachers, academics, administrators, librarians, trainers, parents and students.

The new tools and services will be free to use and provide a personal gateway to quality-assured education and training information. EdNA Online has the capacity to adapt services for individual use through online collaboration tools including forums, chats, community sharespaces, newsletters, news feeds and discussion lists.

EdNA is one of a range of initiatives supported by education.au limited, which was established as a national collaboration between the Australian Government and State and Territory governments to develop and share education and training resources including the highly successful online training portal MyFuture, The Le@rning Federation and the Education Portal.

education.au limited will be writing to schools, universities and vocational education agencies early in 2004 to advise them of services available through the new EdNA Online.

The EdNA Online website can be found at http://www.edna.edu.au/.
