INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS IN BOOTHBY

Shade shelters will be built, fitness facilities installed, and classroom carpets replaced under new innovative funding from the Australian Government.

It gives me great pleasure to announce the Investing in Our Schools program is to provide nearly $500,000 for 13 capital works projects at ten State Government schools in Boothby.

This is an exciting program because it delivers funds to projects which have been identified by the school communities themselves as priority works.

These are modest projects which can struggle to make it into State Government priority lists and may otherwise be forced to rely on fundraising by parents and students.

Over recent months, I have been working together with local schools to actively lobby the Federal Education Minister, Brendan Nelson, for funds such as those announced today.

This funding demonstrates that we are delivering on another of our 2004 election promises.

The Australian Government will provide state schools with an extra $700 million over four years under the Investing in Our Schools program.

I look forward to continuing to support local schools in the electorate as part of the Australian Government’s commitment to building on school infrastructure.

A list of state schools receiving funding in the smaller projects category of the Investing in Our Schools program is attached.
