MEDIA RELEASE Monday 21 November 2005 MR05.092

MORE CHILD CARE PLACES FOR BOWMAN

The Bowman Federal Electorate which covers the entire Redlands Shire is set to benefit from an extra 105 extra places in local Outside School Hours Care facilities.

Andrew Laming, Member for Bowman, welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Kay Petterson.

“I am pleased to announce that Faith Lutheran College OSHC Services and St Matthew’s OSHC have both secured a total of 105 new places for this community. These places are a part of the Government’s commitment to providing child care places to areas with the highest need, ensuring a strong and viable child care sector,” Mr Laming said.

“These places are a part of the Howard Government’s commitment in the 2005-06 Budget of more than $260 million over four years for additional child care support.

“Parents of school aged children find Outside School Hours Care a great option, with many families relying on these services to help them manage the demands or work and family.

“By providing these additional OSHC places, the Australian Government is proving yet again its commitment to helping families manage that often difficult and stressful balancing act.

“The allocation of these places to Faith Lutheran and St Matthew’s OSHC services will ensure they can continue to provide quality and affordable child care to allow families to participate economically and socially in the community.

“The 2005-06 Budget continues the Australian Government’s strong record on providing child care options for families, giving parents the opportunity to participate in work or study and providing a better future for them and their children,” Mr Laming said.

For more information about child care, families can call the Australian Government’s national Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305.
