So Brough Did Meet With Leonie Green On April 10: Getting Closer To The Truth?

Cheryl Kernot - Shadow Minister for Employment and Training

Media Statement - 27 June 2001

In Question Time today it was confirmed that Minister Brough and his adviser attended a meeting with Leonie Green and her senior staff in the board room of Leonie Green and Associates on the 10th of April this year.

The Opposition is aware that at this meeting Ms Green raised with the Minister the example of the use of her labour hire company in survey work undertaken by Job Network clients.

The Opposition is aware that the Minister was also informed that Leonie Green and Associates were planning to expand this scheme.

This raises serious questions about the Minister's repeated assertions that he did not become aware of this particular practice of Leonie Green and Associates until June 4.

Leonie Green asserts that she continued the practice of placing people into 'phantom jobs' confident in the knowledge that she had informed the Minister exactly what they had been doing and he and the Department had raised no objections.

Ms Green has admitted receiving $370,000 for these placements.

Also in Question Time today Minister Brough confirmed that another Job Network provider, IPA, had used Job Network clients as "promotional walkers" to distribute flyers promoting IPA labour hire staff. Authorised by Geoff Walsh, 19 National Circuit, Barton ACT 2600.
