BLAME GAME ON AIRPORT SECURITY BREACH NO SOLUTION

The breakdown in procedure which resulted in a Korean Airlines flight taking off despite a major security breach overnight is extremely concerning and must be treated seriously by all parties involved.

Procedures in relation to airport and aviation security were established following consultation with the industry in an effort to strengthen aviation security and avoid serious incidents.

The events of last night mean that these security systems are not foolproof and this is a major concern.

The Howard Government must ensure that the Office of Transport Security investigation into the incident is undertaken with expediency.

That investigation should not merely focus on whether any action should be taken against those responsible for the security breach but more importantly how the breach happened in the first place.

The Howard Government must also explain what it will do to ensure something like this does not happen again.
