Nairn Highlights Australian E-Government Achievements in Stockholm

The Special Minister of State, The Hon Gary Nairn MP, has highlighted Australia’s performance and capabilities in a keynote address to Europe’s premier Public Services Summit in Stockholm, Sweden.

Addressing delegates, Mr Nairn focused on the acclaimed web portal www.australia.gov.au and its popularity in Australia as a benchmark in citizen-government engagement.

“Our web portal Australia.gov.au is attracting an increase in user numbers of around 7 per cent every month. Since this time last year, visitor numbers have increased from 200,000 per month, to around 450,000.”

“This growth is proof positive that the site is working for Australians - an increasing number of whom are now engaging with the Australian Government exclusively online.”

Mr Nairn highlighted the Australian Government online service www.business.gov.au the use of which makes conducting business with government easier; and Centrelink’s SMS text messaging, which is facilitating interaction with its customers, as examples of Australia’s e-innovation.

“Significantly, Australia’s e-government example was well received in Stockholm. Australia’s strong economic growth over the past decade and our innovation was recognised and applauded”, Mr Nairn said.
