FEDERAL SPORTS MINISTER OPENS SPORTSTRALIA EXPO IN ADELAIDE The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, launched the largest ever, sporting call to action with the opening of the inaugural Sportstralia Expo in Adelaide today.

Showcasing a range of popular sports and with demonstrations by ‘Sportstralian Ambassadors’ and other local sports-people and clubs, Sportstralia Expo will be a catalyst to help sporting organisations recruit new playersincreasing sport participation and club membership across Australia by building greater links with schools, business and community groups.

‘Sportstralia Expo is about converting Australians’ passion for sport into greater participation at the grass roots level, and encouraging them to become members of their local sporting clubs and associations.’

‘Increasing the awareness of the benefits of sport and boosting the number of people getting involved in sport as players, coaches or officials, is a key element of the Government’s policy Backing Australia’s Sporting Ability - a More Active Australia ,’ the Minister said.

Announcing the Government’s policy last year, the Prime Minister committed a record $550 million to sports funding in Australia, including $82 million to increase sports participation.
