KOREAN AND VIETNAM VETS’ TO RECEIVE CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION

Federal Member for Chifley, Roger Price MP, has welcomed the Federal Governments decision to confer certificates of appreciation to Australians who contributed to the national effort during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. This follows on from the success of the certificates of appreciation awarded to World War II veterans’ last year.

The certificates would be awarded under the Federal governments commemorative program Their Service - Our Heritage, and are only available through MP's offices .

“It is only just that veterans' of the Korean and Vietnam Wars are extended certificates of appreciation for their efforts during those wars", said Mr Price.

The certificates have been signed by the Prime Minister John Howard, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Bruce Scott, and the local Federal MP, Roger Price.

The certificates are available to both ex-service personnel and members of the general community.

"Certificates of appreciation for World War II were not only awarded to war veterans, but also to people who worked in munitions factories, on farms, in offices and for voluntary organisations", said Mr Price.

"It is only right that Australia shows its appreciation to people from all walks of life who made a difference during times of war, including Australians who have not previously been formally recognised for their contribution".

Applications for the certificates from the constituents of Chifley can be made through the office of Roger Price MP. Applications can be made by veterans' organisations, community groups or simply by family or friends.

“It is important that Australia shows veterans' from the Korean and Vietnam Wars that their contribution in those wars is recognised and appreciated”, concluded Mr Price.
