AGED CARE APPROVALS ROUND DELIVERS PLACES TO RIVERNA The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull today announced a $1.9 million capital grant for the Cootamundra Nursing Home and new residential aged care places for Griffith under the 2004 Aged Care Approvals Round.

Mrs Hull said the Australian Government is providing more than $2.08 million to the region under the round.

“The Cootamundra Nursing Home will use their grant of $1.9 million to construct phase two of their dementia unit,” Mrs Hull said.

“After turning the first sod on this development, I am so excited to be able to announce this funding, in addition to $1.2 million announced last year, which will enable the completion of this project.

“This project has been strongly supported by the Cootamundra community and I look forward to the completion of this project which is so important to the people of Cootamundra.

“The Pioneers Lodge Hostel will receive 12 dementia places and one respite place, valued at $184,821, which will assist elderly residents in the Griffith community.

“These new places bring the Australian Government’s total to more than 68,600 new aged care places since 1996 - compared to the 10,000 bed shortage left by Labor in 1996.

“I am pleased that local aged care providers in the Riverina have responded to the Government’s decision to make a record number of residential places available.”

Mrs Hull said the aged care places were allocated to those applicants who demonstrated they could best meet the care needs of the ageing community within a specified region.
