Belmont-Tingalpa Lions Club brings a smile to a little girl’s face Tuesday, 15 November 2005

Congratulations to the Belmont-Tingalpa Lions Club that was able to raise thousands of dollars to purchase a much needed insulin pump for eight year old Jazmine Steedman from Murarrie State School.

Jazmine suffers with type-one diabetes and having lost over half a kidney on both her right and left side before the age of five, she has hardly experienced a normal or easy childhood.

But for Jazmine and her family daily life is now looking a little brighter, all thanks to the Lions Club. The Belmont-Tingalpa Club members worked tirelessly for months to raise the needed funds and finally in September they were able to place an order for the pump.

“When I wrote to the Club in March this year about young Jazmine, I had no idea that they would be able to achieve this success so quickly,” said Mr Vasta.

Project Officer, Kevin Tutt, said that the amount raised locally was $4000 and then with a donation of $4000 from the Australian Lions Foundation, the Club was able to place an official order for the pump on 6th September 2005.

“The insulin pump will make such a difference to Jazmine’s daily life and the Steedman family are so grateful for what the Belmont-Tingalpa Lions have been able to achieve.

“I congratulate the Club and offer my thanks to all community members who support the wonderful work that the Lions Clubs do,” said Mr Vasta.

After an operation at the Mater Children's Hospital, Jazmine is now learning how to use the pump an

Members of the Belmont-Tingalpa Lions Club are thrilled with the result of their efforts and they are encouraging more locals to consider joining the club and working with the community to help make a difference.
