Artbank's 21st Year of Achievement Congratulations Artbank-the Federal arts lending scheme today celebrates 21 years of successful promotion of contemporary Australian art to the world.

To commemorate the anniversary, Federal Minister for the Arts, Peter McGauran today launched Artbank: Australian Art In Public Spaces, a publication promoting the organisation's many milestones.

'Artbank is one of the great success stories of Australia's contemporary visual arts scene,' Mr McGauran said at the official 21st birthday function held in Sydney this evening.

'By promoting and supporting works from emerging artists, Artbank has ensured they establish a presence in the competitive world art market.

'This publication explores Artbank's extensive collection of nearly 9000 pieces. By leafing through, the reader immediately gains an impression of the huge difference that artworks make to our environments, our public spaces, our places of work, through providing an outlet for emotion, inspiration and reflection,' Mr McGauran said.

'Artwork featured in the book illustrates how the business community and government sector is using Artbank to provide colour, style and individuality in work places at a very reasonable cost.'

Some of Artbank's almost 600 clients are featured-the Hyatt Hotel Perth, Price Waterhouse Coopers Melbourne, Bentley's MRI Chartered Accountants in Brisbane, and Johnson & Johnson in Sydney.

'Visual art in places of business has incredible potential. At any one time, around 6000 pieces from Artbank's collection find homes on CEO boardrooms, restaurants, haute couture boutiques and Australian embassies throughout the world.'

The full colour publication features early works by eminent Australian artists such as Arthur Boyd, Ada Bird Petyarre, John Brack, Hossein Valamanesh and Tracey Moffatt.
