MEDIA RELEASE 117/05 ELIZABETH MEDICARE OFFICE IS NOW OPEN LONGER

From today Elizabeth residents will have greater opportunities to claim their Medicare benefits, register for the Medicare Safety Net or access the Family Assistance Office, with another 121 Medicare offices around Australia extending their opening hours.

“This is all about providing better customer service,” said David Fawcett, Member for Wakefield. “The main benefit to customers is that the extended hours will give working people greater opportunities to visit a Medicare office.”

“We will be asking customers what they think about the new hours to see if we are meeting their needs and to see how we can better meet their needs in the future”, said Minister for Human Services Joe Hockey MP. “We want to provide the best service possible to our Medicare customers”.

This latest initiative follows the successful introduction of Saturday trading at many offices last year, and evening trading in July this year.

The 121 offices, which are located in every Australian state and territory, will all have their closing times extended to 5pm as part of an ongoing program to make Medicare services as accessible as possible.
