Press Release Ref: 724 Published: 26/6/2002 Title: $1588 in Grants helps Veterans Claim Benefits

OZVETS will receive a grant of $1,588 from the Federal Government to help Australian veterans and war widows make claims for pensions and other benefits, Mr Gary Nairn, the Member for Eden-Monaro, announced today.

Mr Nairn said the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, had approved the funding as part of the Government’s Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) program.

“This Government recognises the vital role played by ex-service organisations in supporting veterans, war widows and widowers through the claims application and appeals process,” Mr Nairn said.

“Through the BEST program, we are providing funds to ensure these organisations the resources to provide and maintain quality services to members of the veteran community.”

OZVETS will receive a grant of $1,588 for $350 internet costs and the use of a leased desktop computer, leased multi purpose laser printer and a computer helpdesk service.

“The grants program honours the Government’s commitment to make the veterans’ claims process fairer, easier to understand and more efficient,” Mr Nairn said.

“This grant is part of $1.640m in BEST funding allocated during 2002-2003 to support ex-service organisations through improved resources and training programs.”
