“Services to employers taking on New Apprentices will be maintained in all regions across the country,” the Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs Dr David Kemp said today.

Dr Kemp was commenting on the decision announced by Cabinet today that Employment National would continue to operate its business.

The New Apprenticeships arrangements have been highly successful.  This is a reflection of the achievements of New Apprenticeships Centres in getting employers to take on a person in a training position.  They have done this by having good local networks and by providing more responsive and personal services.

This announcement brings certainty to Employment National’s business as a New Apprenticeships Centre.  Employment National is contracted to deliver quality services to employers and New Apprentices.

As part of the announcement, Employment National will no longer conduct business in Tasmania.  Business managed by Employment National in Tasmania will be absorbed by the three other successful New Apprenticeships Centres in Tasmania: Jobnet Tasmania, Tasmanian Group Training Ltd and Northern Group Training Ltd.

“These alternative organisations will leap at the opportunity to pick up any additional business which will become available with the closing down of Employment National in Tasmania,” said Dr Kemp.

“Employment National will be restructured in some areas of its operations and my Department will work closely with Employment National to ensure these services are delivered to a high quality.

Employment National is one of the 36 organisations contracted to provide these services to employers across Australia.  Each New Apprenticeships Centre is required to service

the entire region.  These organisations were given business on their commitment and demonstrated ability to fully service a region.

“All New Apprenticeships Centres are committed to fully servicing the regions in which they do business and I am committed to ensuring all employers and people interested in New Apprenticeships receive a quality service from these Centres,” said Dr Kemp.
