Unemployment falls in Central West

The number of jobseekers receiving the Newstart or Youth Allowance in several Central West centres has decreased since May, NSW Senator Sandy Macdonald announced today.

The Department of Family and Community Services has released the June 2003, Monthly Profile of the Labour Market and Related Payment report, which outlines the number of jobseekers primarily receiving Newstart or Youth Allowances. This covers people who are receiving a benefit but are required to search for work.

Senator Macdonald has welcomed the latest figures which also show the total number of jobseekers receiving the allowances across Australia has decreased by 4,103 since February, 2003.

“Local figures for the Central West are following national trends, falling in recent months, which is very pleasing for the job-seekers of Calare,” Senator Macdonald said.
