Regional arts grants for Western Australia

The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the latest round of successful grants under the Regional Arts Fund.

'Nine projects in regional Western Australia will receive more than $91,000 through the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund,' Senator Kemp said.

'The Australian Government is continuing to provide Western Australia with quality arts experiences and cultural development opportunities.'

The Regional Arts Fund supports and encourages a wide range of arts and cultural activities that provide opportunities for widespread community development in regional Australia.

Some of the initiatives supported in this round of funding are:

● Merry Gong Xi-Raya-this project brings together diverse cultural groups,

Chinese, Malay and European, to gather a range of narrative histories and verbal accounts of life on Christmas Island. ● Forum Theatre a rehearsal for life-this is a series of theatre workshops for young

people by young people, using Forum Theatre techniques to develop a performance for touring to local schools and community venues. ● From a Glass of Milk to a Glass of Wine-30 years, 30 stories-this public artwork,

celebrating the contribution of the Margaret River Arts Council to the local community and marking its 30th anniversary, is to be inspired by a collection of stories relating to the viticulture and dairy industries that are the lifeblood of the region.

Country Arts WA manages the Fund in Western Australia on behalf of the Australian Government. Assistance is available across all art forms for projects that promote excellence in regional arts development.
