Joanna Gash MP Member for Gilmore

A major milestone has been reached in the process to establish a Family Relationship Centre in Nowra.

Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash has called for applications from organisations interested in running the centre or a range of other services under the Family Relationship Services Program.

Mrs Gash said the new Nowra Family Relationship Centre and services will be open in July next year.

"The Nowra Family Relationship Centre will provide information, advice and other help for those looking to make their family relationships stronger," Mrs Gash said.

"Too often we hear of family breakdown and, likewise, we hear of the problems too late.

"The Nowra Family Relationship Centre will provide services to strengthen relationships, prevent separation or resolves post-separation relationship difficulties."

Mrs Gash said funding will be available to establish the centre and for eligible organisations to provide a mix of men and family relationship counselling, family relationship education and skills training and family relationship counselling.

"This is an initiative based on support and prevention," Mrs Gash said.

"If we can keep families together in positive environments, than we, as a society, will benefit.

"Likewise, if separation does happen, we need to put in place services that make the post-separation environment positive and supportive, particularly when children are involved."

Mrs Gash has urged organisations to apply for funding to deliver a wide range of services to families.

"A competitive selection process will be conducted by the Attorney General's Department and Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs to select organisations to run one or more of the new services in Nowra," Mrs Gash said.

Applications close on October 30, 2006.

More information, including the selection criteria and application forms, can be found at or or by contacting Mrs Gash's Nowra office on 02 4423 1782.
